History

1995 - Facilitated the first Internet node in the Chicago Public Schools, to DuSable High School

1996 - Chicago Public Schools | University of Chicago Internet Project founded to work in 24 neighborhood schools by: Donald G. York, Horace B. Horton Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics, University of Chicago; Duel Richardson, Director of the Neighborhood Schools Program, University of Chicago Office of Community Affairs; Richard White, Director of the Office of Learning Technologies, Chicago Public Schools; Dick Dynis, Project Manager of the Office of Learning Technologies, Chicago Public Schools.

1996 - Mitchell Marks joins CUIP as the Technology Coordinator.

1997 - The eCUIP Digital Library Project established through a partnership with The University of Chicago Library. Priscilla Caplan, Assistant Director for Library Systems in the University of Chicago Library, named Director.

1999 - Chicago Web Docent founded under the leadership of Craig Cunningham, Director of Curriculum for CUIP to develop curriculum based on the resources of local cultural institutions, including the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum, the Chicago Historical Society, the DuSable Museum of African American history, The Field Museum, the Museum of Science and Industry, The Newberry Library, and The Oriental Institute.

2000 - Benjamin Lorch joins CUIP as Managing Director of CUIP In-the-Schools.

1997 - 2006 Web Institute for Teachers trained over 700 teachers in the use of technology to improve teaching and learning.

2000 - Elisabeth Long appointed Director of the eCUIP Digital Library Project and Christie Thomas appointed Assistant Director.

2001 - Julia Borst Brazas appointed Director of Chicago Web Docent.

2005 - One of the branches of CUIP, CUIP In-the-Schools, shifts from a grant-funded program to a fee-for-services organization.

2006 - Shaz Rasul appointed Managing Director of CUIP In-the-Schools.

2006 - Russ Revzan, retired Chicago Public Schools teacher and technology coordinator, joins CUIP as a Technology Resource Advisor.

2007 - Collaboration formed with the Chicago Public Schools Department of Libraries and Information Services to support the implementation of an Integrated Library System for CPS.

2010 - Sara Dennison appointed Managing Director of CUIP In-the-Schools.

2011 - Terry Jones, retired Chicago Public Schools teacher and technology coordinator, joins CUIP as a Technology Resource Advisor.

2010-2012 - Chicago Public Schools Capstone Course for Space Science utilizing NASA content, with the Chicago Public Schools Office of Math and Science, Adler Planetarium, Loyola University Chicago, Northwestern University, and DePaul University.

2008 - 2014 Chicago Web Docent and eCUIP begin astronomy curriculum and resource development with the receipt of a NASA ROSES EPOESS grant to create multiwavelength astronomy resources for high school students.

2012 - 2014 NASA All-Stars professional development program for teachers and students.

2014 - 2015 Thirteen schools currently served by CUIP.
